Man denies badger killing charges

28 July 2009 - BBC News
A man is to face trial in the south of Scotland on charges involving the
beating to death of six badgers. Anthony Rodgers, 58, of Breconside Farm, Moffat, denied a total of nine
charges at Dumfries Sheriff Court. The animals are alleged to have been killed with a blunt instrument at
Crockett Wood on the Moffat farm between 1 January and 4 April, 2008. Six of the charges relate to snaring and killing the badgers with a further
charge relating to cruelty.
Mr Rodgers is also accused of setting in position a quantity of snares in
close proximity to a badger sett which he knew to be active. He pled not guilty to all the charges which were brought under the Protection
of Badgers Act and the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
